About Chapter 13 (Two Variables, One Line)

Chapter 13 (Two Variables, One Line) is chapter 13 of 14 in the new edition of Ganita Manjari (NCERT Class 9 Mathematics), a textbook for Class 9 students at the Secondary stage. This is the new edition, the textbook brought out under the NEP 2020 / NCF-SE 2023 syllabus rollout.

Chapter 13 builds on linear polynomials to study linear equations in two variables. Starting from a fruit-cart situation, it shows how such an equation describes a line and then explains how to solve a pair of linear equations.

In the book it comes after Chapter 12 (Quadrilaterals) and before Chapter 14 (Math of Space: Surface Area and Volume), so it helps to be comfortable with the earlier chapters before starting it.

Topics covered

  • Linear equations in two variables
  • Solutions of a linear equation as points on a line
  • Solving a pair of linear equations
